Comparison of different Buteyko Practitioner training organisations

Much debate and discussion has taken place over the past five years amongst Buteyko practitioners worldwide as to the ideal minimum standards that each Buteyko practitioner training program should adhere to. However, five years on, no consensus has been reached resulting in wide variations of training.

Based on a six week discussion which took place in 2008 on the worldwide Buteyko Forum as established by Peter Kolb, ButeykoClinic practitioner Patrick McKeown has put together the following recommendations to ensure safe and reasonable quality training;

1) Practitioner trainers should have at least five years experience of teaching Buteyko and have taught a minimum of 800 clients.
2) Part of the basic training program will include practical observation of at least 40 clients been instructed by an experienced Buteyko practitioner trainer. (exceptions to this number are permitted in countries new to the Buteyko Method such as the USA, Canada etc.)
3) Training should take place over a minimum of ten days. (training may be divided into a number of short training courses)
4) Indefinite follow up support should be provided to all new practitioners.
5) Practitioner trainers should be affiliated to a training organization.
