Buteyko Breathing Practitioners - California
Having practiced dental hygiene as a Registered Dental Hygienist for over thirty years, I am now incorporating myofunctional therapy into my practice as a vital component to the oral health.
Myofunctional therapy is a complex working of musculature to keep the tongue in the correct rest position. There are many benefits to a correct tongue position including the teeth correcting their position so the bite is beneficial and also sleep and digestion problems along with habits that can be corrected through oral facial myology. Soft palate position and airway problems can also be corrected.
As an oral facial myologist, working with muscles of the face and airway problems with breathing and eating, Buteyko fits very well into the excercises I am teaching. It added to what I was alreading doing and increased my scope of practice to include other illnesses and problems such as snoring, asthma and allergies and other bronchial problems, even working toward being free from medications. Buteyko Breathing has helped me and my family in more ways than I coud have imagined!
FYI registered dental hygienist, nutrtional therapy practitioner, oral facial myologist, and Fellow of the Academy for Comprehensive Esthetics

Joy Moeller's background as a dental hygenist was the impetus for her to train in myofunctional therapy. Her life's work has been in helping children, teenagers and adults perform correct swallowing and breathing in order to ensure proper development and growth of the jaws and face. Incorrect swallowing and mouth breathing creates cranio-facial changes which significantly impair both health and appearance of the child or adult. Part of this involves the elimination of habits such as nail biting and thumb sucking.
After taking the Buteyko training, Joy now weaves the Buteyko exercises into her therapy program. After practicing oral Myofunctional Therapy for 30 years, the combination of Buteyko Breathing and Myofunctional Therapy has helped Joy's patients attain a much higher state of health than ever before! Because one of the goals of oral myofunctional therapy is to attain nasal breathing, Buteyko therapy helps the medulla part of the brain to know that it is ok to nasal breathe resulting in better oxygenation!"
Joy is a guest speaker at the UCLA Sleep Apnea Mini Residency where research will be conducted on helping sleep apnea.

Jeanne Shimizu Jeanne is a Registered Dental Hygienest,Orofacial Myologist and Buteyko Breathing Educator practicing in California. With myofunctional therapy she teaches children and adults the correct tongue position, proper swallowing technique and lips together /mouth closed posture to be practiced at all times. Buteyko breathing is a perfect adjunct to this.
In order to keep the mouth closed one needs to be able to breathe through their nose. With simple exercises and lots of practice breathing becomes better and easier. Anxiety, allergies or asthma can often interfere with a comfortable dental appointment. The buteyko breathing helps people with these issues to relax. Jeanne has worked in dental hygiene for over 30 years. Buteyko breathing has been a wonderful, drug free way to make peoples life better!
Jeanne practices dental hygiene in Scotts Valley, Calif. She is available for Myofuntional Therapy and Buteyko Breathing from San Jose to Carmel Calif.

Christie McKenzie suffered with severe asthma for over 30 years that left her with very little quality of life, relying on constant medication that rarely provided relief. Along her journey of trying to obtain better health she also tried various alternative health options. None of her efforts made any difference. In fact her doctor said her asthma had become so severe he didn't see her living past her mid-30's.
She heard about Buteyko from a fellow life coach and with some hesitancy she decided to check it out. Her thorough research and dialogue with Patrick McKeown convinced her that she finally came upon some extremely powerful and exciting information. She decided to not only take the classes to better her own health, but also to become a Certified Practitioner so she could be of service to others.
In addition to obtaining her Buteyko Practitioner certification from Patrick McKeown, Christie McKenzie is also a certified Master Practitioner in NLP and Hypnotherapy. She is a Life Coach fulfilling her passion of teaching others how they can empower and transform their own lives into living the life of their dreams physically, mentally and spiritually.
Classes are offered in Los Angeles, Orange County, Huntington Beach
